Time Improver – Maths

Focus: Build lightning speed in core topics (Number System, Simplification, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry) without dropping accuracy. Ideal for SSC CGL Tier-1/2, Banking Prelims/Mains.

Topic-wise Timed Practice (Sample Daily Drill – 10 questions, target <8 min total)

  • Number System (Divisibility, LCM/HCF): Find LCM of 12, 18, 30. Ans: 180 – Time yourself: <20 sec.
  • Simplification (BODMAS heavy): 15 × 4 + 72 ÷ 9 – 8² + √81 = ? Ans: 60 – 64 + 9 = 5 – Shortcut: Step-by-step left to right.
  • Algebra (Quadratic/Equations): Solve x² – 5x + 6 = 0. Ans: x=2,3 – Time: <30 sec.
  • Geometry (Area/Perimeter): Rectangle length 20 cm, breadth 15 cm → Area? 300 cm² Perimeter? 70 cm.
  • Trigonometry (Basic ratios): sin 30° = ? cos 60° = ? 1/2 each.

Shortcuts & Tricks (High-yield for exams)

  • Number System: Divisibility – 3 (sum of digits ÷3), 9 (sum ÷9), 11 (alternating sum 0 or multiple of 11).
  • Simplification: Approximation 19.8≈20, 4.9≈5; square trick 45² = (50-5)² = 2500 – 500 + 25 = 2025.
  • Algebra: Roots = [-b ± √(b²-4ac)]/2a; common pairs e.g. x²+5x+6 = (x+2)(x+3).
  • Geometry: Circle πr², Triangle ½bh; triplets 3-4-5, 5-12-13.
  • Trigonometry: SOH-CAH-TOA; 0°,30°,45°,60°,90°: sin/cos/tan = 0/1/0, ½/√3/2, √2/2/√2/2, √3/2/½, 1/0/undefined.

Accuracy Tracking

Log: Questions attempted, correct, time taken (e.g. avg 45 sec/question → aim <35 sec next week). Weekly goal: 90%+ accuracy at 1.5× speed. Review wrong ones daily.

Time Improver – Quantitative Aptitude

Focus: Arithmetic speed for SSC, Banking, CAT-level (DI, Percentage, Ratio, Profit & Loss, Time & Work).

Data Interpretation (Sample – 5 questions, target <6 min)

Pie Chart: Total sales ₹1,20,000. Sector A 25%, B 30%, C 20%, D 15%, E 10%.

  • Sales of B? ₹36,000
  • Difference A vs C? ₹6,000
  • If total increases 20%, new A sales? ₹30,000

Mixed Difficulty

  • Easy: 20% of 500 = 100.
  • Medium: Ratio 3:5, total 800 → parts? 300, 500.
  • Hard: A sells at 20% profit, buys back at 10% loss → overall %? 8% profit.

Time per Question (Benchmarks)

Percentage: <20 sec · Ratio/Profit Loss: <30 sec · Time & Work: <45 sec · DI (per question): <40 sec.

Shortcuts

  • Percentage: x% of y = (x×y)/100; successive a% then b% → (a + b + ab/100)%.
  • Ratio: 3:4 → 7 parts total.
  • P&L: CP×(100+profit%)/100 = SP.
  • Time & Work: A 10 days, B 15 → together 1/10+1/15 = 1/6 → 6 days.

Time Improver – Reasoning

Focus: Verbal/Non-verbal under pressure (Puzzles, Syllogism, Coding-Decoding, Seating Arrangement).

Puzzle & Arrangement (Sample – target <4 min/set)

  • Linear: 5 people A,B,C,D,E in row – A left of B, C right of D, E extreme right. Who leftmost?
  • Circular: 6 people facing center, P opposite Q, R left of S → positions?

Syllogism + Coding

  • Syllogism: All cats are dogs. Some dogs are rats. Conclusion: Some cats are rats? No definite.
  • Coding: APPLE = BQQMF (each +1) → BANANA = ?

Speed Benchmarks

Syllogism: <25 sec · Coding-Decoding: <20 sec · Seating (linear): <60 sec · Puzzle (floor/day): <90 sec. Daily 15–20 questions; track avg time & accuracy. Detailed analytics (heatmap, progress graph) coming soon.

Knowledge for Students

Bite-sized tips from our detailed syllabi. Use these while you practice time & vocab—they work across SSC GD, banking and other exams.

Reasoning

  • Number series: Check the difference of the difference first—it solves most SSC questions.
  • Alphabets: Memorize EJOTY (E=5, J=10, O=15, T=20, Y=25) instead of counting.
  • Coding: Often only the first or last letter changes—check options before decoding the whole word.

Maths & Quant

  • Simplification: Use unit digits to pick the answer (e.g. 2×3 → last digit 6) and save time.
  • Time & Work: Assume total work = LCM of days; then efficiency = work ÷ days. No fractions.
  • Ratio/Percentage: Assume total = 100 or plug A=2, B=3 when A:B = 2:3. Skip 'x'.

Vocabulary

  • Word clusters: Group by "vibe"—e.g. Happy: Joyful, Blithe, Cheerful. Easier than learning words alone.
  • Roots: -cide = killing, -phobia = fear, -logy = study. One root unlocks many words.
  • Error spotting: Read aloud. Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency cover most errors.

General Awareness

  • 15-minute rule: 15 min on one state's dances, 15 min on Articles 1–20. Short bursts beat long cramming.
  • Active recall: Cover the answer and try to name the dance or article from the state/topic.
  • Polity: Focus on "power numbers"—14–18, 19, 21, 32, 51A. They repeat in exams.
